Frequently Asked Questions

What to know before you book.

Every recovery is different. If your situation is not covered below, request a consultation and tell us what you need.

When should I book Surgery Bestie?

As early as possible, especially for overnight, 24-hour or destination care. A 50% retainer is required to reserve dates.

Can I call if I already had surgery and suddenly realize I need help?

Yes. Last-minute requests are welcome when availability allows. Tell us your procedure, current post-op day, location and what you need help with.

Where do you provide care?

Local service is available within approximately 50 miles of the San Francisco Bay Area. Surgery Bestie also provides domestic and international companion care by custom arrangement.

Do you provide lymphatic support?

Yes, when appropriate for the client's stage of recovery and consistent with surgeon instructions. Your consultation helps determine whether it should be included in your care plan.

Can you help with showers and compression garments?

Yes. Personal care, dressing and compression-garment support can be included in post-op visits and extended-care bookings.

Do you give medications?

Surgery Bestie can provide medication reminders and help keep the client's prescribed recovery routine organized. Medication decisions, changes and clinical questions should be directed to the prescribing clinician.

Is Surgery Bestie a replacement for a nurse or my surgeon?

No. Surgery Bestie provides non-medical recovery and companion support and does not replace licensed nursing, physician care, emergency services or your surgical team.

What if I develop concerning symptoms?

Clients should follow their surgeon's emergency instructions. Symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, severe bleeding, confusion or other urgent concerns require immediate medical evaluation, including calling 911 when appropriate.

How does travel care work?

Destination care is custom quoted. Depending on the booking, airfare, lodging, ground transportation and related travel expenses are additional to professional service fees.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made at least 72 hours before scheduled service may receive a refund of amounts paid, less non-refundable processing or travel expenses already incurred. Cancellations between 48 and 72 hours before service may receive a 50% credit toward future services. Cancellations within 48 hours, missed appointments and services already rendered are non-refundable. See the Policies page for full terms.
